Hello all,
I'm just wondering if anyone can give me ideas for snacks in the evening. I get very peckish at night and usually want chips or something salty. Anyone have any healthy alternatives they can suggest?

Smart pop is quite good. (especially with some Becel 0 calorie spray and seasoning) Very low point too!

popcorn or the 100 calorie bags of Lays.

WW makes a multi grain crisp that goes good with salsa.

water, water and more water. You should really aim not to eat anything a few hours before bed to get the best burn while you're sleeping.

Smartpop is great, and also I eat a Halloween size bag of cheezies. Pretzel sticks aren't too bad for points either.

Stoneamanda, there is no reason you can't have a snack in the evening after dinner. It's an old wive's tale that eating before bed makes you fat.

It is recommended that you don't go to bed right after eating a full meal as you're likely going to get indigestion, but other than that, if you want a snack in the evenings, allocate your points and have it.

I like toast or a bowl of low point cereal. I find those things fill me up.

To eat there own on the eating at night thing, but I just finished reading Mastering Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels and in this book she talks about how eating at night effects your body - might not effect the calories in / calories out scenario, but it doesn't seem to do any good. Old Wives Tale - there's something to be said for traditional knowledge.

I like to have a portion of cheese (ones from cosco balderson and 6 triscuits. The crackers give me the crunch and the cheese some protein.

Hi, I often find a small snack in the evening helps, so that I don't wake up absolutely ravenous in the a.m. Sometimes it will be smartpop, if I'm craving salty snacks. Sometimes, just a 1/2 cup cereal and 1/2 cup milk. Just enough to take the edge off the hunger pangs. Good luck!

Hi,
If I had to describe my eating style it would be as a 'grazer' or a 'muncher'...I tend to want a larger portion of something with fewer calorie costs than a smaller portion of something rich...

I have found that a pack of Smart Pop microwave popcorn is a great night time snack. I purchased a non-aerosol olive oil sprayer (I prime it myself at its only about $6.99) and use the olive oil spray followed by a 'shaker' flavour (like Kernels) for added flavour. If you're counting points the Salt & Vinegar flavour sure 'ups the ante' on flavour, but when used in moderation doesn't add points--just watch the sodium--there's always something! ;)

Here's an added tip. Divide the bag into 3 cup portions after flavoring and put in an airtight container-- that way you won't eat the full bag by accident and it stays fresh for the next day's snack.

Enjoy,
M

I love a snack before bed. My favourites are:
-fat free pudding with a spoonful of ff cool whip
-smart pop (a popular option)
-cheese and crackers
-an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter
-baked chips/ rice chips
-yogurt with low fat granola
-carrot sticks (or other cut up vegetables) with low fat dip

I am definetely one of those people who needs a snack before they go to bed. Do not worry about eating at night, I have eaten a snack every night that I have been on WW and I have managed to lose 25 pounds. WW is designed to let you live your life the way you want to, without making you feel deprived.

Nabisco Thinsations are awesome snacks too!...100 calories a pop, most are about 2 or 3 points. You can get pre-packaged bags of smart pop that are a great 1 point snack! If all else fails, I always go for some veggies with 1 tbsp of ruffles onion dip (1 point) or salsa with 1 serving of baked tostitos scoops (4 points)

I'm a fan of hummus on whole wheat toast with salt and pepper. Nom.
If you start feeling the need for dessert-y stuff, Chapman's makes some really tasty low-fat frozen yogurt. The cappucino flavour is a recent favourite.

I have fat free yogurt with either fresh or dried fruit cut up in it, and a sprinkle of bran buds... dairy, fruit and fibre! I plan this into my day, because if I don't have something later in the evening, I wake up hungry in the middle of the night, and for me, that's deadly!

I guess it depends on how many points you have... but lately... my evening indulgence is canned peaches - in juice. A whole can is only about 3 points...

And I love to throw them in the freezer first and serve them in a chilled bowl - dont ask me why.. but i love my peaches

This isnt a salty snack but a healthy and tasty one tht is almost like having a popsicle or ice cream. YOu peel a banana, but both tips off, cut it lengthwise down the middle, spread natural peanut butter on the flat sides, stick it back together (peanut butter sides) wrap it in plastic wrap and freeze it.. then you can just cut off a pice at a time for a nibble. They actually taste really good

I used to eat a heaping pile of loaded nachos almost every night, but now 16 sea salt and lime crispy minis with a half cup of PC white corn and black bean salsa usually does the trick.
