Dale lost weight with a prior Weight Watchers program

Already on the computer all day every day, Dale found Weight Watchers Online to be the perfect fit for her lifestyle makeover.

The worst consequence of being overweight was the disappointment I felt in myself. My family and husband loved me for who I was, but I was disappointed in myself. With two children at home, I didn’t feel like I was much of a role model if I wasn’t healthy. I was tired of the image I saw in the mirror, and of seeing photos of myself. I had tried to lose weight before by watching what I ate and exercising. I would succeed—only to gain it back again. I needed to find a plan that worked and that I would stick to, and in order for that to happen it had to be easy.

Researching the details
The hardest part was making the decision to subscribe to Weight Watchers Online and start following the PointsPlus® Weight-Loss System. The plan itself turned out to be the easy part. Making a commitment to myself and keeping it was more difficult. A daycare provider at my son’s daycare had started the Program and was succeeding and raving about it. I thought if she can do it, so can I. I am extremely organised and like to have all the information on something, so the day I signed up and the weeks following were all about research. I explored everything on the website that I could, community boards, recipes, food and PointsPlus values, until I knew it like the back of my hand.

As I learned the details of the plan I realised that I was enjoying the process immensely. Any question that I had or help that I needed I could throw out to the fabulous online community and find answers and tips. What a fantastic group of strangers, coming together for one goal. I highly recommend utilising the resource. Everyone is both helpful and encouraging.

A family affair
The support and encouragement from my husband and two boys was, and to this day, is amazing. I couldn’t have done it without their help. Every day my kids would ask, “how many PointsPlus values is that mom!" I loved watching them absorb the knowledge of healthier choices. It has impacted their young lives and I feel great about helping them be healthier and more active by my side. It has taught them about portion control and proper nutrition which will benefit them throughout their lives. It has been a positive experience for the whole family.

One of my favourite changes along the way was the addition of regular activity to my day. When I started the Program my husband and I started walking around the neighbourhood together three to four times a week. We discovered a dual benefit: exercise and a little time to ourselves! Since then I have also started kickboxing two to three times a week. I love the changes I see in my body from the exercise.

All these months later I am still an avid fan of the website and am on it all day every day. It has been a key part of my maintenance. I still track my food and activity everyday and marvel at all the site has to offer. My advice to anyone thinking about getting started is to do it today. You will never regret the choice.

Dale’s Tips
  • Eat all your PointsPlus values, every day. You need to eat to lose weight.
  • I saved my weekly PointsPlus Allowance for the weekend to enjoy a nice dinner out and a glass of wine! Also, I never ate my activity PointsPlus values, but you can if you need them.
  • If you hit a plateau, mix up your foods, change what you eat for breakfast. Your body gets used to burning the same calories every day.
  • Don’t give up! If you have a bad day, just move on and get back on the Program.
  • Maintaining is possible, just remember what you learned on the Program. Sometimes I find myself a little more relaxed while maintaining. If I am to gain a couple pounds, I just get myself back on the Program and off they come.
